The Movement Theater Company goes green

On a shopping day a couple of weeks ago, I was chatting with one of our recipients, Eric Lockley, one of the Producing Artistic Leaders of The Movement Theater Company in Harlem.  Eric and his colleagues were looking for materials for their upcoming production, “4 Sustenance.” The play, which is about connections between people and the environment, has a great message that goes beyond the stage. The play will be the 4th edition of the company’s annual “Go Green” series, where artists are challenged to reduce waste, use “green” themes, and go paperless – meaning no hardcopy scripts – while producing their plays.

This year, they are teaming up with the More Gardens! Coalition, who promote the preservation and cultivation of community gardens throughout NYC, to launch their SEEDS 4 SUSTENANCE initiative. At each performance of “4 Sustenance,” audience members will receive bags of seed to plant in their local community gardens and receive information on planting and upcoming events at local gardens.

Don’t miss “4 Sustenance,” which is part of the 2012 Planet Connections Festivity. There will be 6 performances between May 30 and June 13 at the Bleecker Street Theater.  For times, dates, and ticket information, click here or here.
