Visitors to MFTA since late March have been greeted by a fierce warrior decked out in upcycled fashion. The warrior, a mannequin donated to MFTA by Barneys, shows off fashion created in collaborative workshops led by Michael DiPietro. We are pleased that Michael will offer the next installment of our Third Thursday open studio workshop series!
Explore a variety of techniques to turn today’s drab wardrobe into tomorrow’s Technicolor dream clothes! Visiting artist Michael DiPietro, founder of Culture Push’s Fashion Re/Action Festival, will walk you through the basics of altering for fit, hand sewing appliqués, and bedazzling your way to fierceness. Be sure to bring your own piece of clothing to this workshop, and see where MFTA’s materials can take you.
Michael’s work for Culture Push is on view in MFTA Gallery through October 4, 2012.
DIY Fashion Extravaganza meets Thursday, May 17, 2012, 7-9 pm, at Materials for the Arts, 33-00 Northern Boulevard, Long Island City, NY 11101.
This workshop is free and open to the public. Please register by clicking here.
