WasteDiversions Preview: Honest Abe and a yellow monster

"Abe" (2012) by Sabu. Combine. Exhibited at MFTA Gallery for WasteDiversions, through October 4, 2012.

Many MFTA recipients will remember the massive donations of American Eagle costume jewelery available at the warehouse earlier this year. Sabu, an artist and dedicated MFTA volunteer, scraped up the last broken bits of that donation for his intimate combine, Abe (above). Another transitional work by Sabu, this work is on view for WasteDiversions at MFTA Gallery through October 4, 2012.

"Yellow Monster" (2012) by Sabu. Paper sculpture. Exhibited at MFTA Gallery for WasteDiversions, through October 4, 2012.

Sabu’s series of paper sculpture was created entirely with leftovers from school group visits at MFTA. It is inspiring how few cuts are necessary for Sabu to create monstrous, but miniature, sculpture from these scraps. See his entire series of paper sculpture during WasteDiversions at MFTA Gallery through October 4, 2012.
