Powerful photos from American Opera Projects

Kaila from American Opera Projects sent over a few pictures from a recent performance that incorporated baskets, CDs, telephones, and fabric from the warehouse. The production, Numinous City, is inspired by the true story of Ngawang Sangdrol, a Tibetan nun imprisoned in Lhasa, Tibet at age 14. She, along with other nuns, managed to record songs on a smuggled cassette player while in prison, the fame of which ultimately led intercession by the US government and to her release, ending up as a nanny in Brooklyn, New York. The title Numinous City is a reference to the unseen forces, spiritual, emotional, and political, that influence her paths.

The rest of the photos can be seen on their Flickr and include some powerful shots so be sure to check them out.
