Joy Suarez’s New York City Kites created with Louie Miranda, is on view at M.F.T.A. Gallery for Creative Reuse in New York City. The mixed-media installation was originally presented through the Fashion Center Space for Public Art to promote Kite Flight, an event which allows participants to create and fly kites on the roof of the Port Authority. Suarez and Miranda’s installation evokes the magic of the Kite Flight event. They have used MFTA trim items to create a city skyline, which is punctuated by intricate, brightly-colored kites. Their work shows how MFTA recipients make art, and spectacular events, by creatively reusing objects found in the warehouse.
Opening Reception: We invite you to join the artists and representatives from their host organizations at M.F.T.A. Gallery for an opening reception and artists’ panel, from 6-9 pm on Thursday, December 1. Drinks and light snacks will be provided and Carolina Peñafiel of Local Project will DJ.
Creative Reuse in New York City is on view at M.F.T.A. Gallery, 33-00 Northern Boulevard, Long Island City, through February 29, 2012.
