That’s right, our not-for-profit sister organization, Friends of Materials for the Arts, is hiring! This is a finite position to assist with this year’s Masked Marvelous Cocktail Party. This was actually the first position I had here, and I can personally attest that it is a lot of fun, you learn a lot, and the people are great. Here are some pictures from last year’s event. Summer/Fall 2011 Internship Description
Friends of Materials for the Arts seeks an intern to work with the Executive Director and the Director’s Executive Assistant.
The intern’s projects will provide hands on experience in arts administration and development. The intern will also have an opportunity to participate in the planning, preparation and execution of our annual fundraising event in October.
- Coordinating with other staff members on event details
- Securing in-kind donations
- Preparing mailings for the Fall event
- Proofreading grant applications and supporting documents
- Assembling and creating new content for press packets
- Running errands
- Answering phones and responding to emails
The intern is expected to commit part-time (15 hours a week) through December.
About the Organization:
Materials for the Arts (MFTA)is a program of the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs. Friends of Materials for the Arts is the 501(c)(3) sister entity of Materials for the Arts. Located in Long Island City, the MFTA facility houses materials collected from local businesses and individuals that might otherwise end up in landfills. It redistributes these materials to arts organizations, public schools and social service agencies with arts activities. A vital resource for NYC’s arts community, over 4,000 organizations count on Materials for the Arts for materials to run their programs.
Friends of Materials for the Arts, (FOMA) raises philanthropic funds for programs that enhance and enrich the Materials for the Arts operation.
This is an ideal opportunity for a college student looking to gain experience working for a public-private partnership, with an interest in public service and fundraising/development.
