Smiles and spiders from the MFTA classrooms

Third and fourth graders from the Bronx gave fresh life to old CD cases from the warehouse on a group visit to MFTA this morning. They used items many of us have lying around like CD cases and rubber bands to make a base for their weaving. Then, the students added in scraps of ribbon reused from another MFTA project.

The students reused ribbons from this abstract weaving, MFTA's participatory installation in McCarren Park.

Ribbons and yarn from McCarren Park were broken down into manageable pieces by our dedicated volunteers (Image by Barbara Korein).

Students then transformed the materials above to become these great weavings.

A happy face weaving 🙂

This student created a spider.

Look out for more posts on the re-imagining of ribbons and yarn.
