Marlene Hochman, founder and director of The Toy Museum of NY, has this to say of her experience with Materials for the Arts:
MFTA has been a tremendous asset to our growth over the last 12 years. We recently established a Children’s Theatre in the Museum and hundreds of school children have enjoyed our educational show about toys. Many of our costumes and props were discovered at our latest shopping trip to MFTA… It saved us thousands of dollars and our show looks more professional.
Marlene tells us she has used our Direct Donations service and will be picking up props from Juilliard’s Prop Department next week which will save the museum even more money. We are always humbled when our recipients become donors as well, which is the case for the Juilliard School as well as The Toy Museum of NY. Marlene has, on multiple occasions, donated gently used dolls, toys, and craft items that they could not use but that other organizations have since taken and repurposed. She finds that MFTA “enables [the museum] to experiment with ideas and projects that [they] could not have afforded otherwise without MFTA’s support.” We’re glad she has even afforded others the chance to do the same.
The Toy Museum of NY is located in Brooklyn and is open Wednesdays to Fridays from noon to 5pm to the general public, with live performances on select Saturdays. They also offer classes and camps for kids.
