Cool Classes This Summer At MFTA !

Summer vacation fast approaches, which means two things: students are out of class, and teachers are in class!

Don’t let the synapses stop firing this summer. Join us for two great week long professional development classes. These courses are especially for NYC DOE teacher who are able to receive P-Credits towards a salary differential for completing the course. Not a DOE teacher? No problem. We have two seats open each week for individuals who are not seeking credit for the course.

Creative Infusion: Art & Reuse in the Classroom

Instructors: Joy Suarez & Susan Anderson

Section 1- July12- 16                Section 2 – August 2- 6

Both sections run Monday-Friday, 9:30am-4:30pm.

  

Creative Infusion (for K-12 educators) consists of hands-on, art making workshops and focuses on incorporating arts into established curriculum by creatively addressing the Standards and multiple Blueprint Strands. Sessions include: Art of Reuse- an introduction to materials and problem solving; Games & Game Boards- developing new games and replicating standard games for all subjects with reused materials; Bookmaking- the creation of book structures to complement a multitude of subjects; Theatre Arts (hats, masks & costumes) and Puppetry- a spotlight on the communication of stories through various mediums. Emphasis will be placed on creating sustainable artwork: that which leaves no negative impact on the environment. Participants will utilize journaling, research and the sharing of best practices to develop lesson plans from course material for a variety of learning styles and levels that are relevant to their school. ( 3P credits)     $190 + ASPDP fee ($100) = $290

Raw Fibers: The Art of Fabric

This studio class will take a single product, fabric, and work out the historical, economic, scientific, social and mathematical properties that are inherent in its use and production; all through hands-on art making. There will be four themes of hands-on practice: weaving, printing, batiking and fabric arts. Participants will learn about the environmental impact of fabric and practice ways of reusing their materials throughout the course. Participants will utilize journaling, research and the sharing of best practices to develop lesson plans from course material for a variety of learning styles and levels that are relevant to their instructional setting. This course is team-taught by Joy Suarez and Susan Anderson.  (Grades K-12, 3P credits) 

$250+ ASPDP fee ($100) = $350

Section 1- July 19-23

Section 2- August 9-13

Both sections run Monday-Friday, 9:30am-4:30pm.
