Yesterday was Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and for many people, it’s a day to give back to their communities. Thousands of volunteers participated in service projects throughout NYC yesterday. MFTA kicked off the weekend on Friday, hosting 30 members of the NYC Civic Corps team in the warehouse. Participants cleaned up the paint room, organized fabric, paper, and hardware areas, unloaded boxes of new donations onto the shelves and consolidated bins of craft items.
Civic Corps members serve for one year in non-profit organizations and city agencies throughout NYC to make programs more sustainable, mostly through effective volunteer programs. Civic Corps is an initiative of NYC Service, and is funded through the Americorps VISTA program. Thank You NYC Civic Corps for all your hard work on Friday!
With new donations coming in everyday, and members “shopping” 2-3 times a week, our warehouse is always in need of volunteers. Take an afternoon and help fold fabric, or sort a new shipment of craft items, or there are opportunities to assist members during shopping hours. Find out more on the MFTA Volunteer Page.
