I got really excited when I saw these pictures and pretty much had to share. WHEDCo or the Women’s Housing and Economic Development Corporation was first participant of a plan to use older computers found on Direct Donations for creating computer labs children and adults can use to run basic computer typing and design programs.
While this program isn’t anything new from what not-profit do every day through a number of other tech-centric organizations like Nonprofit Computing and PerScholas, we are were looking for a way to help our recipients fulfill some of their planned technology expansion plans but than was put on puase by the latest economic turndown.
The computers were donated by a Manhattan design firm and the lab is already partially operational. Stay tuned for a video interview and more when we go onsite to see how the kids feel about their “new” computers
